Are you in the middle of a house move, renovating your home or planning a good decluttering? Before you know it, you've got a mountain of household items you want to get rid of, but what do you do with them? Take them to the charity shop, give them to someone or opt for household skip hire after all? Find out why a waste skip for your household items is a good option.

What do you do with your old household items?

You've had a big clear-out, you're moving or have just moved, or perhaps you need to clear out a house after someone has passed away. You've got a sizeable pile of household items in the garden or even still in the middle of the house. What do you do with it all? Right, time to take action. There are plenty of ways to get rid of household items. The easiest is household skip hire, and although it might seem as if your things are lost, they're actually recycled into raw materials for new products.

Charity shop

If you have a lot of household items that are still in good condition, the charity shop is a good option. You can donate your things there so they can be sold to people looking for second-hand items. That way your belongings get a second life and you're helping the environment too. Charity shops often have a van. If you give them a call and tell them what you've got, they may come and collect it, so you don't even have to leave the house.

Give away/sell

If a lot of your things are still in good condition, you can also give them away or sell them. There are plenty of Facebook groups where you can offload them. Or put them on Marktplaats, where you might even make a bit of money, although you can offer them for free there too. You can then say that people need to collect the items themselves. The downside is that this is a lot more work, and you often get several different people coming round, which means you have to be at home. You need to be fine with that.

Recycling centre

If your household goods are old, worn out or even broken, they belong in a skip. But if you have a lot of stuff, it won't simply fit in your wheelie bin. That's where the recycling centre comes in. You can take your things there, throw them into the right containers and you're done. It's often free, but not always, so check the rules with your local council. The downside of the recycling centre, however, is that it's often busy and you sometimes have to wait a long time to drop off your things. You also need a suitable car and a trailer. If you don't have those, you're better off with a skip hire.

Household items skip hire

Hiring a skip for household goods is by far the easiest way to get rid of your unwanted household items. It's placed outside your door, you throw everything in and once it's full, we collect it again. It's that simple. The items go to the waste processor, who recycles them into new raw materials for making new products. Good for the environment too.

A skip can stay for 6 weeks, so you have plenty of time to gather up your household goods. It saves you a lot of time, which makes the job far less of a chore.
