Skip hire for your shed?

31 maart 2019 · Ruud Bats

Do you have a shed you want to get rid of? Or is it time for a really good clear-out? Then there's a good chance you'll need a skip. But which skip suits your situation best? Can everything go in the same skip? And what happens if you put waste in the wrong skip? Before you have a skip delivered for your shed, check carefully which one you need.

Clearing out the shed

If you're clearing out the shed or busy with decluttering and you mainly have bulky waste, such as broken furniture and old tools, you'll need a bulky waste skip. You can easily get rid of your bulky waste in it and make sure everything is taken away properly. If you don't have that much bulky waste, you can go for a 1m3 Big Bag hire. If you have more, there are skips of 3m3, 6m3 and 10m3. If it's going on the public road and you're worried that others will dump their rubbish in it, you can hire a 10m3 closed container, which you can lock with a padlock. .

Removing a shed

But what if you don't just want to clear out the shed, but demolish it too? Is there a special shed container? No, you'll need a wood skip. You can put all the wood waste you come across during demolition in it. This is especially handy if, for example, you're replacing your old shed with a new one. If other waste types come up too, such as roof tiles or metal sheets, you'll need a construction waste skip. If you put other waste types in a wood skip, you'll be charged a hefty surcharge, and that would be a shame.

Demolishing and clearing out

But say you want to demolish the shed and get rid of old stuff straight away. Then you'll need a construction skip. You can put not only wood waste in it, but also other waste such as plastic, metal and rubble. In a bulky waste skip you can also put construction waste, so if you have a lot of stuff and want to put the shed in the skip as well, that's absolutely fine.

Tip: If you have garden tiles by your shed and you're removing those too, they can simply go in with the construction waste. But if you have a lot of tiles, it may be cheaper to order a separate skip for garden tiles. Tiles count as rubble, and a rubble skip is cheaper than a construction skip.
