Every now and then, one of our drivers makes a wasted trip. A wasted trip is one where, when the driver arrives, the container can't be placed or collected, so the driver has effectively driven 'for nothing'.
This can happen, for example, because there is nowhere to put the skip, or because the skip can no longer be collected, perhaps due to its weight. In that case, a trip charge of 120 euros (incl. VAT) still applies. What a waste! That's why we've put together four tips to minimise the chance of a wasted trip.
When you order, you can tell us where the skip should be placed. If you haven't done this, the skip will be placed as close to the delivery address as possible. Unfortunately, sometimes there's simply no room for the skip, for example because the whole street is full of parked cars. So reserve the spot where the skip needs to go. You could, for example, park your own car there and move it just before the skip is delivered. You could also put another object there or cordon off the area with barrier tape. Just make sure the spot is clear again when the skip is delivered. Will you be at home when the skip is delivered? Then you can also ask to be called when the driver is nearby, so you can point out exactly where you'd like the skip to go.
To stop your neighbours from taking up the spot where the skip needs to go, it's a good idea to let them know in advance. At the same time, you can make clear that other materials shouldn't end up in the skip. If that does happen, extra processing costs will be charged. In some cases, the skip can't be collected at all because it no longer meets the requirements. This may mean the skip is overfilled or too heavy to be moved. Not sure which materials go in which skip? Under the heading waste types you'll find an overview for each skip.
To transport the skip safely, the load may stick out no more than 20 cm above the rim. Our drivers take the waste skips on the motorway, and this has to be done safely. If a skip is overloaded, the waste is no longer held securely in the skip, which can lead to dangerous situations. Also make sure the waste doesn't stick out too far over the sides. Not only does this take up a lot of space, it can also create dangerous situations.
Although the skips can take quite a lot of weight, there is a limit. If you fill the skips efficiently, there's usually nothing to worry about. However, if you put in (too many) heavy materials, or press the waste down hard when you know there's really no more room, the skip may become impossible to lift. In that case, the skip cannot be taken away.
